Silly String for Troops in Iraq

January 9th, 2007 . by Administrator

I am sure you shopping have all herd about this by now but the troops are still in harms way.

Helping the Troops

How you can send them life-saving Silly String

By ELLIN MARTENS

shopping TIME with CNN.com Thursday, Dec. 07, 2006

Last month TIME wrote about soldiers and Marines in Iraq requesting an unusual life-saving item in their care packages sent from home: Silly String. It shopping seems that the neon plastic party streamers sprayed into an open doorway before a building search or across a darkened room can help detect nearly invisible trip wires attached to bombs and boobytraps. shopping The old methods to detect trip wires — sweeping the space with a metal grappling hook or getting close enough for a visual inspection — just aren’t as safe, Marines discovered.

Marcelle shopping Shriver, an office manager and Army mom from Stratford, N.J., first advertised for Silly String donations in her church bulletin after her son called from Ramadi and mentioned how the Marine unit he shopping was working with had passed on their tip to his combat engineers new to Iraq.

Since our item on this latest display of military ingenuity first ran, it’s been picked up by shopping everyone from Fox & Friends to Jon Stewart’s Daily Show. And Shriver has been inundated with donations and cash for shipping. She’s even had a private pilot volunteer his services to fly the shopping stuff to Kuwait where it will be taken by truck to Iraq in January. (Because aerosol cans are considered hazardous materials, they’re extremely expensive or impossible to ship by commercial or freight air shopping carriers.)

Shriver told TIME today that her one-car garage is now stacked with more than a thousand cans of the stuff. She’s looking for more. TIME has also received inquiries from teachers shopping around the country whose students read the story and want to help Shriver in her Silly quest.

“You’ve gotten me into this mess,” she wrote TIME via e-mail. “And I love it!” shopping It will all be worthwhile, she says, if it can save one person’s life.

If you’d like to send donations of cans of Silly String or other items for troop care packages, shopping the address is:

Marcelle Shriver

c/o St. Luke’s Church

55 Warwick Rd.

Stratford, N.J. 08084

(CBS13) SACRAMENTO Deborah Johns of Roseville is putting shopping together care packages for her son William’s Marine unit serving in Iraq. She’s sending holiday cheer and a taste of home where it’s desperately needed.

Earlier this week, in a care package shopping for her son, Deborah included something unusual William specifically asked for. Silly string is quickly becoming a common request from troops overseas. The subject even made the pages of Time Magazine. So why shopping do they want it?

“Because it’s light weight and it helps detect wires when they’re going through a doorway without setting off the explosive ordinance,” said Johns.

You can see how shopping the string gets hung up on wires that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye, wires that could be connected to a bomb. And this is not something the military provides.

shopping “We as parents back home are gonna’ do whatever they ask us to do in order to save their lives and make sure that they’re protected. We’ll send whatever it is they request. shopping And who would’ve thought silly string would be one of those? Who would’ve guessed it? “said Johns

The ones I picked are really good values, great for pirate shopping parties or are very unique and historically significant.

Link to all of our Pirate Products

The Internet was full of pirate history, lore, stories, etc so I pulled some that is shopping accurate, I hope, and very interesting.

The history of piracy dates back more than 3000 years, but its accurate account depends on the actual meaning of the word ‘pirate’. In English, the shopping word piracy has many different meanings and its usage is still relatively new. Today, some uses of the word have no particular meaning at all. A meaning was first ascribed to the word shopping piracy sometime before the XVII century. It appears that the word pirate (peirato) was first used in about 140 BC by the Roman historian Polybius. The Greek historian Plutarch, writing in about 100 shopping A.D., gave the oldest clear definition of piracy. He described pirates as those who attack without legal authority not only ships, but also maritime cities.

Piracy was described for the first time, shopping among others, in Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey. For a great many years there remained no unambiguous definition of piracy. Norse riders of the 9th and 11th century AD were not considered shopping pirates but rather, were called “Danes” or “Vikings”. Another popular meaning of the word in medieval England was “sea thieves”. The meaning of the word pirate most closely tied to the contemporary was shopping established in the XVIII century AD. This definition dubbed pirates “outlaws” whom even persons who were not soldiers could kill. The first application of international law actually involved anti-pirate legislation. This is due shopping to the fact that most pirate acts were committed outside the borders of any country.

Sometimes governments gave rights to the pirates to represent them in their wars. The most popular form shopping was to give a license to a private sailor to attack enemy shipping on behalf of a specific king – Privateer. Very often a privateer when caught by the enemy was tried as shopping an outlaw notwithstanding the license. Below we tried to outline a selective history of piracy, selective and arbitrary because there is so much that can be said about piracy and it is impossible shopping to tell all. We hope that even this brief introduction will show the spirit and truth about the piracy the way we see it.

Career Day at Daughter’s Class

January 30th, 2006 . by Administrator

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting and talking to my Daughter Sammy’s 5th grade elementary school class shopping here in Southern California. It was career month at her school so some of us “volunteer” parents were privileged to stand up in front of 30 11 and 12 year old boys and shopping girls to talk about our careers. I never thought I would be so nervous but it is commonly know that public speaking, whether in front of 11 year olds or peers at an shopping important conference, is on the top 5 list of situations people are fearful of.

So I brought in some of the top sellers, a life sized cardboard cutout from Star Wars, the shopping t-shirt “I put ketchup on my ketchup” and the orange crush hat to show the lovely young and well behaved, the teacher of course was there to provide protection, students some of the shopping products they or actually their parents could purchase from incrediblegifts.com.

The event went very smoothly and included some “high tech”, they were able to bring up my site on their computer and shopping then project it on a screen in front of the class. I say “high tech” because 39 years ago when I was in the 5th grade it was blackboard, chalk, the three “R’s” shopping and not much else. Boy did I feel old.

California Gift Show

January 19th, 2006 . shopping by Administrator

This weekend I will be attending the gift show, continuing my never ending search to add products to my web site. One of the country’s largest and most prestigious gift shopping industry events, the California Gift Show features 10 product divisions and one special focus area in nearly 3,000 booths.

I know it’s probably hard to believe but I actually do look at shopping every booth, maybe not for very long if the products are completely unrelated to what we are selling, but I do take a look. Sometimes this is the only way to find new shopping products, like many other businesses, you look at thousands of different items to find the few that fit.

To give you an idea of what its like imagine yourself on a department shopping sales floor the size of a football field filled with booths of merchandise and walking up and down the isles for 16 hours. Some people actually enjoy this and want to go, like shopping my wife, I wish I could say the same for me not sure if you would believe that. Anyway it’s a small part of the job and if you do find something great shopping then it’s all worth it.

Pink Panther New shopping Movie & Clocks

January 16th, 2006 . by Administrator

The New Pink Panther Movie coming out on February 10 staring Steve Marin as Inspector Jacques Clouseau, Kevin Kline as Chief Inspector, shopping Beyonce Knowles as Xania, Jean Reno as Gendarme Gilbert Ponton, Emily Mortimer as Nicole and Henry Czerny as Yuri. A prequel to the 1964 Peter Sellers original film, where the detective must solve shopping the murder of a famous soccer coach and find out who stole the infamous Pink Panther diamond.

Nine Pink Panther Clocks.

Partial Remake of the original Pink Panther Movie staring Peter shopping Sellers, David Niven, Robert Wagner and Directed by Blake Edwards.

Hard to imagine two people more suited to pay Peter Sellers and David Nivens parts than Steve Martin and Kevin Kline. In shopping my opinion, of course I am not a movie expert but certainly a fan, Marin and Sellers are two of the best, this new movie should be very fun to watch.

T-Shirt for Everyone

January 15th, 2006 . by Administrator

The History of the T-Shirt

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the shopping T-Shirt quickly became an American favorite. Now, a century later, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, the T-Shirt remains as popular as ever.

Link to the category page for all of shopping our t-shirts.

The American T-Shirt began during WWI when American troops noticed European soldiers wearing a comfortable and lightweight cotton undershirt during the hot and humid European summer days. Compared to the shopping wool uniforms that the American soldiers wore, these undershirts were cooler and more comfortable and they quickly caught on with the Americans. Due to their simple design, these shirts became known in the shopping USA as “T” shirts or, as we know them now, “T-Shirts”.

By the 1920’s, “T-Shirt” had become an official word in the American English language with it’s inclusion in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary. By shopping W.W. II, both the Navy and the Army had included the T-Shirt as standard issue underwear

Initially pegged as an undergarment, the T-Shirt soon came in to it’s own on the big shopping screen. John Wayne, Marlon Brando and James Dean all shocked Americans by wearing their underwear on national TV. In 1951, Marlon Brando shocked Americans in his film “A Streetcar Named Desire” when his shopping T-Shirt was ripped off of his body revealing his naked chest.

By 1955, the T-Shirt was tolerated worn without another shirt covering it. Then James Dean made the T-Shirt real cool in shopping “Rebel Without A Cause”. James Dean made the T-Shirt a contemporary symbol of rebellious youth.

In the 60’s people began to tie dye and screenprint the basic cotton T-Shirt making it an shopping even bigger commercial success. Advances in printing and dying allowed more variety and the Tank Top, Muscle Shirt, Scoop Neck, V-Neck, and many other variations of the T-Shirt came in to fashion.

shopping The T-Shirt was inexpensive, in style, and could make any statement you cared to print. The American T-Shirt came into it’s own during the late sixties and seventies. Rock and Roll bands began shopping to realize that they could make significant amounts of money selling their T-Shirts. Professional Sports caught on and soon the officially licensed T-Shirt became hot merchandise.

During the 80’s and 90’s the shopping production of T-Shirts and the mechanics of printing on them increased the volume and availability. Soon the American T-Shirt was being called a commodity item in the apparel industry.

At the beginning shopping of a new millennium, the t-shirt has entered cyberspace and is now about to become even bigger. The American T-Shirt is well built and it is made to be worn. The artwork symbolizes shopping the cultural and social climate of our times. The printing is state of the art created by true craftspeople. The T-Shirt is a great product.
